I read the title of this week's assignment in ETEC 527, and thought "what does that even mean?" I have never heard of aggregating pages! This is going to be so difficult, I know it! I'm just not that tech savvy! I still have so much to learn!
After Googling "aggregating pages," I found that "a content aggregator website is a site that collects data from other sources across the internet and puts the information in one place where users can access it." Hmmm, this sounds like it could be useful...
I started out by looking at Netvibes and after exploring it a bit, it seemed fairly difficult to get the hang of so I moved on to Protopage. Protopage seemed much more user friendly and I liked the look and feel of the site. It had a 15 step guide to setting up a page, so I started looking into this. I went through each of these steps and before I knew it, I had my page mostly up and running. I continued to add widgets for my Twitter feed, Blog site, This Week in Tech, and my YouTube Channel.
I had concerns about linking my Twitter feed because it seemed like once I made the page public, anyone would be able to post in my account. A classmate checked out my Protopage and assured me that is was not possible. I also ran into some problems with YouTube and wasn't sure how to embed a playlist into my widget. After asking on our class discussion page, I was able to find a step-by-step guide on how to do this and I think I got it worked out. Thank goodness for tech savvy classmates!
I continued setting up my page by adding bookmarks and widgets for news, weather, and a clock. I then explored with backgrounds, fonts, and colors and moved widgets around the page until I was pleased with the overall look. It is bright and colorful and makes me happy!
I started the week feeling very unsure of myself in regards to this assignment in aggregating pages, but I feel like it turned out well. I am learning so much each week and am gaining confidence in my abilities.
